"Ohm" comes off of Yo La Tengo's latest release, Fade. Its introductory drum beat sound like a combination of the Beatles' "Baby You're a Rich Man" and "Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band". Besides its clear McCartney inspirations, "Ohm" strides forward by use of memorable phrasing and vocal harmonies. A simple guitar strum pattern elevates the mantra-esque vocals while the shakers scratch corrugations into relaxed flow of Ira Kaplan's calming vocals. As with the majority of Yo La Tengo's work, Fade provides us with music that is easily enjoyable, but not vapid. Intimate and close mic'ed vocals, acoustic guitars, and tender harmonies are something we all expect and enjoy from Yo La Tengo. On "Ohm", we get all that and more.
